Edit or remove a transaction

You can edit or delete a personal transaction from its details. Halis recalculates the affected figures and sends the change to your other devices when syncing resumes.

Correct an entry error from the existing transaction. First find the right item: two purchases of the same amount can be separate transactions, and an entry with the wrong date may be in another period.

Identify what is wrong

Compare the amount, date, account and category with your receipt or what actually happened. Also check the transaction’s direction and any details that help you recognise it.

For example, if a 2,500 FCFA transport purchase was entered as 25,000 FCFA, edit that item. Adding a new 2,500 FCFA expense would leave the original error in your totals.

Edit the entry

  1. Open the transaction from the journal or relevant account.
  2. Tap Edit to return to its form.
  3. Correct the inaccurate information: amount, category, account, date or details as needed.
  4. Review unchanged information too, particularly the account and currency.
  5. Save the correction with Save.

Changing the category reclassifies the same transaction. Changing the account corrects where it is tracked. Changing the date can move it into another period: check that period afterwards to verify the result.

A correction keeps a record of how the entry changed; you do not need to create a second transaction yourself to offset the first one. The transaction’s detail view lets you inspect its history when it has corrections.

Delete a duplicate

Use Delete from the transaction, then read the confirmation before proceeding. If you opened the wrong item, dismiss the confirmation to keep it.

Before deleting a duplicate, compare both items and choose which to keep. If a single expense just has a wrong amount or category, editing may be enough: there is no need to delete and enter everything again.

Understand the consequences

Deletion removes the transaction from the figures Halis tracks. It does not refund a purchase or cancel a payment at your bank or mobile-money service. A technical record of the action remains in the journal.

A correction can change the account balance, category expenses and the tracking of a relevant envelope. Return to the account and period involved to check those effects before making another correction.

Check context and syncing

This guide covers personal transactions. A shared expense is handled from its group, according to your rights there. On a shared account, available commands also depend on the right you were given.

An offline correction needs to be sent before appearing on another device. If the phones do not yet show the same result, check syncing and the periods displayed instead of immediately deleting or correcting again.
