Set an account balance
Halis calculates balances from the amounts and transactions you record. An adjustment brings an account in line with the balance you actually see without creating an expense.
An opening amount lets you start tracking an account from what it actually contains. You can then record new activity without recreating all the history from before you used Halis.
Start with the right amount
When creating an account, check your bank statement, mobile-money balance or count your cash, then enter the amount you observe. Check each account separately, in its own currency.
For example, if you start with 20,000 FCFA in cash, that is your starting point. A 2,500 FCFA expense entered afterwards leaves 17,500 FCFA in this record. Do not enter purchases already reflected in the opening amount again as if they had just happened.
Halis does not check your bank to complete this journal. New expenses, income and moves must be recorded for the balance to continue representing your situation.
Find the cause of a difference
Before adjusting, compare the transactions with what actually happened. Look for a missing purchase, duplicate, wrong amount, wrong account or a forgotten move between your accounts.
If you identify the error, correct the relevant transaction. Adding artificial income or an expense to catch up the balance would also change your income or expense statistics.
Adjust to the observed amount
- Open the relevant account and its menu.
- Choose Adjust the balance.
- Enter the account’s actual amount now, rather than the difference between Halis and your statement.
- Review the difference shown: Halis indicates what it will add or remove in the journal.
- Add a note if you want to keep the context, then confirm with Adjust.
If Halis shows 18,000 FCFA and you observe 20,000 FCFA, enter 20,000 FCFA. Halis calculates the 2,000 FCFA difference. Entering 2,000 FCFA as the actual amount would instead reduce the record to that amount.
Understand the result
The adjustment adds a journal record to bring the balance to the declared amount. It does not rewrite old expenses and is not income or an expense to include in your budget.
After confirming, check the account’s new balance and adjustment record. If you use several devices, the change still needs to sync before appearing elsewhere.
If you cannot confirm
The button requires an entered amount and a non-zero difference. If the actual amount already matches the Halis balance, no adjustment is needed; read the on-screen explanation rather than trying to force an entry.
On a shared account, adjusting depends on your rights. Permission to record transactions does not by itself grant permission to adjust the balance. An adjustment changes only your Halis record: it does not move money at your bank or mobile-money service.
