What an envelope is for

An envelope compares spending in your chosen categories with an amount planned for a week or month. It is a guide and does not block your money or spending.

An envelope compares expenses recorded in one or more categories with an amount you plan for a week or month. It helps you track a use of your money, such as transport or household spending.

Choose what to track

Choose categories that serve the same need and a suitable period. A transport envelope can contain just one category; a household envelope can group several. Read its amount alongside the chosen period: planning an amount for a week does not mean the same thing as planning it for a month.

Creation depends on your current access. If Halis displays the Premium offer instead of the form when you add an envelope, that creation requires additional access; it is not an amount-entry issue to correct.

Create the envelope

  1. Open the budget’s envelope section, then Create an envelope.
  2. Select the categories whose expenses should count.
  3. Enter the planned amount; if suggestions appear, check whether they match what you want to prepare for.
  4. Choose Week or Month.
  5. Check the name: a single category can fill it in, but several categories require a name you provide yourself.
  6. Review the categories, amount and period, then tap Create the envelope.

If confirmation remains unavailable, check that at least one category is selected, a name is filled in and saving is not already in progress. You can keep zero as a reference amount: the form does not require a positive planned amount to start tracking.

Read spending and the remaining amount

Expenses in the selected categories feed the tracking for that period. Open the envelope to see the transactions included: the figure depends on what is actually recorded, its classification and its date.

For example, a monthly envelope of 30,000 FCFA with 12,000 FCFA in included expenses leaves 18,000 FCFA against the plan. An expense recorded under another category does not count simply because it was paid from the same account.

Moves between your accounts and balance adjustments are not new expenses for this envelope. Moving cash from a bank should therefore not consume your transport or household reference amount a second time.

Change the planned amount

From the envelope detail, use Change the ceiling to review the planned amount. A ceiling is the reference you set; changing it does not change money already paid or recorded transactions.

For a personal envelope, Remove this envelope lets you remove that tracking after confirmation. Expenses remain in the journal and their categories: removing an envelope does not delete purchases.

Understand an unexpected figure

Check the selected categories, the week or month you are viewing and expense dates. If a transaction has the wrong category or appears twice, correct it rather than changing the ceiling to hide the discrepancy.

The planned amount does not move money, reserve it at your bank or block a payment. You can continue recording spending beyond this reference. In a shared or read-only space, the actions offered may differ according to your access.
